WhimKid is an AI storybook creator: a web app where a parent or creator describes a story idea, chooses an age band and art style, and gets an illustrated children's picture book they can keep editing, narrate, share privately, and export.
Why we built WhimKid
Bedtime stories work when the child is in them. We built WhimKid so a parent can turn one sentence — a name, a fear of the dark, a lost tooth — into a real illustrated book in an evening, without needing to write or draw. The goal is not to replace reading together. It is to make more of it.
Who it is for
Families making a story for their own child. Creators who publish children's content and need illustrations at a faster pace. Anyone giving a personal story as a gift. WhimKid helps them create, edit, and share personalized content for children.
What the product does
Six steps: write the idea, plan the script, build character assets, choose an art style, create and edit pages, then read, share, and export. Every step produces something you can review and change, and every page stays editable after generation — text, layout, page order, and individual illustrations. Finished books can be narrated with background music and shared through a link protected by a password and an expiry date.
Children's privacy and safety
WhimKid handles something unusually sensitive: photographs of children. We treat that as the most important constraint on the product, not an afterthought. Uploaded images are used to generate the story you asked for, and never for advertising or to train our own models. Sharing links can be password-protected, given an expiry date, and revoked at any time. You can delete images, characters, and whole books from your account, and ask us to remove everything associated with a child. Our Privacy Policy sets out exactly what we store, who processes it, and how to have it deleted.
How we handle AI quality
AI-generated text and illustrations vary. We design around that: every stage is reviewable, a single page can be regenerated without redoing the book, and earlier illustration versions are kept so you can go back. The honest promise is not 'perfect on the first try' but 'you stay in control of the result.'
